It is in this place that the man reigns supreme in the design and look, optimizing it for a theatre experience he probably remembers. There are two important items in this room: the television and the home theatre speakers. While it is easy to install a television set, it is with some degree of practical engineering and a good aural feel that enables a man to set up his home theatre speakers. Here are some tips for first time home theatre speakers’ audiophiles who wish to have an elaborate set up:

1. The measurement is in the ears and not the eyes. Speakers are set up for the purpose of having a good hearing experience whether it be watching an action movie or playing an internet game. Make sure that the speakers do not have any obstacles when being placed.

2. Have a focal point. The center of the couch is the generic focal point for setting up speakers. It is from this point where all things are measured against. Included in this set up are the sub woofers, the speakers, be it a 2. 1, 5. 1 or 7. 1 set up.

3. Regularly fine tune your speaker set up. You may want to constantly experiment with the acoustics of your room by fine tuning the placement of your speakers, especially the right and left ones. The preference is to actually have direct sound waves to your ears, not reflected ones as they can lose clarity.

Using ETFs to Invest In a Good Performing Commodity Sector You May Have Missed

When thinking of ETFs in t he commodity sector most investors think of Oil and metals. There is a commodity that investors may not be aware of that is posting good returns. That commodity is water There is a growing world demand for clean water worldwide. In the US the aging infrastructure that delivers water needs to be replaced.

One ETF that takes advantage of these investment opportunities is Powershares Water Resources (PHO). With many exchange traded funds down or just treading water for the year so far, PHO is performing above average. As of July 6th it is up over 9% which is not bad for the recent market conditions. While gold and oil related ETFs are currently performing better, their volatility is much greater and next month could be a different story.

The Powershares Water Resources Portfolio is based on the Palisades Water Index™. The Index seeks to identify a group of companies that focus on the provision of potable water, the treatment of water and the technology and service that are directly related to water consumption. This industry has become a $260 billion plus industry. As time goes by this industry is sure to grow even larger.

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that in the US over the next two decades over $500 million will be spent to upgrade or replace public water supplies.

On a worldwide basis rapid industrialization and increasing agricultural needs have contributed to a worldwide water shortage. China, India, Egypt, Israel, Pakistan, Mexico and parts of the American southwest are just a few of the areas that have experienced water shortages.

In addition another problem has been the contamination of existing water supplies. In the United States fertilizer runoff into the gulf has caused a large problem. MTBE an additive in unleaded gasoline is showing up in well water from one end of the country to the other. There have been many more documented cases of water pollution in countries outside of the US. Of course every time there is a contamination incident, the supply of fresh water available for human consumption is diminished.

For investors the question is how to take advantage of this space. Before Powershares PHO an investor could invest in utility funds of individual stocks. Both of these methods are hit and miss. Utility funds are much more heavily weighted toward companies that are not involved in the water industry. The only other way to invest in this industry was to invest in individual stocks. This method has its risks because the water industry is so broad based and picking the right stock at the right time is not a particularly easy task.

Powershares ETF is based on the Palisades Water Index. The 30 or so companies included in PHO include everything from watershed management to developing more cost effective water treatment systems. The Fund is diversified across six different groups in the water industry. At this time Powershares PHO is the only ETF focused on this industry.

Many of you are probably too young to appreciate the full impact of the hyperinflation in Germany after WW1. It was devastating. This picture shows you the amount of paper that was equal to one silver dollar, or ¾ of one troy ounce of fine silver. After seven years of constantly accelerating inflation, the mark is finally stabilized at the rate of over 4 trillion to a U. S. dollar. The black market rate, however, was an incredible 12 trillion to the dollar at this time. The pre-inflation exchange rate for the mark was by contrast a modest 4. 2 to the U. S. dollar. Can anyone say Hyperinflation?

I have looked at this picture many times, and during one of my presentations, it suddenly hit me that this amount of paper was roughly equal to the amount of value in a silver dollar. In other words, the commodity value of the paper was worth something, because paper can be burned to give off heat and certainly this is of value.

German Currency Crisis: Burn, Baby, Burn

Recently one of my associates sent me this photo and indeed what I had surmised was true. You can see this woman burning the notes because they did possess the value of being able to heat the room, but this was the highest and best use. The ability to be a means of final settlement (real money’s function) had evaporated.

The question for us today becomes whether this is the path that we are taking presently. I certainly must state that so far it is, but we are seeing some deflationary forces taking place in the credit markets. We must remember that after WW2, the Breton Woods agreement was signed using the U. S. dollar as the reserve currency of the world. This was done because the U. S. dollar was backed by gold, and by using the U. S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency, it meant essentially that it was “as good as gold. ” I put quotations around that expression because I am old enough to recall hearing that expression of speech in my youth. In fact there were basically two well known expressions about the dollar. One was, “good as gold”; the other was, “sound as a dollar. ”

The U. S. abused this privilege and printed too much money. France caught on to this, as I am sure others did as well, but France shipped dollars back to the U. S. and took the gold, according to the contract. As this developed, Richard Nixon, President at the time, did about the only thing he could and that was to renege on the contract. This is politely referred to as “closing the gold window,” but what is really meant is that the world had entered into a new era of financial mismanagement that would have dire consequences down the road.

I believe that we are now getting near the end of that road and that we are all in this together. What I mean by that is that Germany, as well as all of Europe, Asia, South America, North America—basically the entire world—is tied to the fate of the U. S. dollar. Since the reserve is still the dollar, as it goes down in value it obviously means that all nations that hold dollars are in trouble as well.

The implications from monetary history are not good, as these two slides have shown. The main stated function of the central bank is to maintain monetary stability, and yet this has not been the case anywhere in the world. Taking the United States as an example, the value of the “dollar” is about 3. 5 cents since the last central bank was established, so in less than one hundred years the reserve currency of the world has lost almost 98% of its value. This is a fact that escapes many people because it has taken more than two generations and has happened at a slow enough pace for people to adjust their thinking, to believe that inflation is normal, that a little inflation is necessary, or that, “My wages are going up so who cares about inflation?”

Most problems are best addressed when the real problem is put into simple terms. The problem as it exists today, as it existed during the Weimar Republic, is you cannot print your way out of this mess. Or perhaps better stated, you cannot print wealth. Wealth has to be earned by the production of real goods and services that the free marketplace determines without any outside interference.

When looking for shelving or entertainment units, take into account the overall design of your room. There is furniture designed to hide all of your audio equipment and some meant to display them. You can use a tower, a wall unit, or an entertainment center for your equipment. For tight spaces, you can purchase a corner unit. Most units are equipped to accommodate flat panel plasma or LCD televisions, but will work with other styles as well. Tall skinny tower design holds all of your audio equipment, while taking up very little room. If height is an issue, you can purchase a short tower that is a bit longer than the rest. Towers and entertainment centers come in many colors, and you can choose from wood, glass, metal, or a combination to fit any décor. If space is very limited, consider wall mounting a flat-panel display and utilizing small shelving underneath to hold the DVD player and audio equipment. Theater chairs are important elements in a home theater room. Comfort and practicality should take center stage when choosing your seating. Recliners are a popular option and can work well in most rooms. Leather seating provides extraordinary comfort and the practicality of a wipe clean surface. Some recliners can be arranged theater style or connected all together. Many recliners come with cup holders that resemble an actual movie theater seat. When choosing a recliner, keep in mind how much it reclines. If the chair fully reclined makes viewing your television screen impossible, you may need to either redesign the room or rethink your furniture choices. If your home theater will be used by kids, you may want to consider bean bags and some other low cost seating. These items are easy to clean and can be moved around depending on the size and number of kids watching television. A home theater that you can enjoy may take time to design. These results increase the likelihood of a horrendous bailout of big government. 4. The housing market has no mortgage payments are late Bottomed worsens. However, even with the recent correction in oil prices are still 61 percent from where they were a year ago. 6. The Fed will not raise rates to fight inflation that the Federal Reserve is stuck between a rock and a hard place. As expected, the Fed kept its target rate for Fed funds at 2%. The accompanying statement also reflects a relatively moderate tone. Downside risks reduced the sentence “and inflation expectations have increased” since the June 25 declaration was found. Fed funds futures now price in only a 52% chance of higher interest rates for the next two FOMC meetings. It ‘a fall from a prediction that was higher by 80 percent last week! PIMCO CEO Bill Gross said that the talks of rate hikes are “comical,” “We are in a recession. When the Fed has never raised its rates in a recession?” He said. “Unemployment is directed towards the 6 percent, mortgage rates for home buyers are at 7 percent, and these guys want to raise rates? 7. Global tensions are offensive HIGH Georgia’s Move is risky. The war broke out Thursday in the area of strategic importance for Georgia, the control of South Ossetia. The price of oil seemed to take matters in hand, doing absolutely nothing. At risk, however, is an international network runsclose by, not to mention the possibility of a conflict of triggering a wider war. Gold and silver are now at the lowest level in six weeks, giving investors the perfect opportunity to buy. If you are still not convinced that you should invest in precious metals, just remember this: history has provided many examples of paper money whose value was destroyed.
